Strengthening Legal Education: LUMS Law Alumni Association Signs MoU with LUMS
The LUMS Law Alumni Association has taken a landmark step to support legal education and research at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) through an MoU signed on March 4, 2025. This initiative reflects the association’s commitment to giving back and supporting the next generation of legal professionals.
Established in 2017, the LUMS Law Alumni Association is an independent, self-governing body dedicated to building strong ties between SAHSOL and its alumni. The Association plays a vital role in promoting the law programme, assisting with student recruitment, and facilitating engagement between graduates and current students.
The MoU was signed between Mr. Haseeb Ahsan Javed (BA-LL.B 2015), President, LUMS Law Alumni Association, and Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor, LUMS. Through this partnership, the Association has pledged an annual contribution to initiatives aimed at expanding access to quality legal education and strengthening academic and research capabilities.
Also present at the MoU signing ceremony were Dr. Sadaf Aziz, Dean, SAHSOL; Mr. Altamush Saeed (BA-LL.B 2020), Vice President, LUMS Law Alumni Association; Ms. Angbeen Mirza (BA-LL.B 2008), Assistant Professor, SAHSOL; Ms. Marva Khan (BA-LL.B 2013), Assistant Professor, SAHSOL; Ms. Shaharbano Raza (BA-LL.B 2015), Gender and Inclusion Lead at the Office of Accessibility and Inclusion, LUMS, and Mr. Salman Ijaz (BA-LL.B 2016), alongside other notable alumni and faculty members of the law school.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Cheema highlighted the significance of community-driven initiatives in ensuring access to legal education. “It is wonderful to see the law school community come together and to hear such great things about our graduates. This strong sense of community is truly inspiring,” he said. “At the University, we are committed to supporting our students in every way possible. We take pride in our strong track record of the National Outreach Programme (NOP) and remain dedicated to making education accessible. Our goal is to create an ecosystem that serves as a hub for student support and reaffirms our commitment to their success.”
Under this partnership, the LUMS Law Alumni Association has pledged an annual contribution to support student scholarships, including through financial aid and the NOP, ensuring that deserving students, regardless of their financial background, can access a world-class legal education. The initiative will also support research projects and faculty development, empowering scholars to contribute to the advancement of legal knowledge and practice.
Reflecting on the personal impact of financial assistance, Mr. Javed stated, “This is just the first step. As an NOP scholar myself, I understand the impact of financial support. I want this initiative by the LUMS Law Alumni Association to thrive in collaboration with the law school. If we move forward collectively as an association, we can support more students, and that is our goal. Even if we fund just one student, we will be making a significant difference.”
Beyond financial support, the collaboration aims to create academic and professional exchange opportunities, allowing students and faculty to engage with legal experts and institutions on both national and international platforms.
Commending the alumni for their dedication, Dr. Aziz emphasised the strength of the alumni network and its future potential, stating, “The LUMS Law Alumni Association makes us incredibly proud. This will be a meaningful and collaborative exchange. Everyone present here has upheld our mission with excellence, and the incredible professional practices we all lead are a testament to that. We hope this strong network continues to grow and thrive.”
With this initiative, the LUMS Law Alumni Association is setting a precedent for alumni-driven impact and investment in future generations. This partnership reflects a commitment to shaping the future of legal education and practice in Pakistan.
