US Ambassador Visits LUMS to Discuss the Future of the Electric Vehicle Industry

His Excellency, Mr. Donald Blome, US Ambassador to Pakistan, visited LUMS with US Consul General in Lahore, Mr. William Makaneole for the launch of the report, Pakistan Electricity Outlook 2022. He was welcomed by the LUMS leadership including Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Pro Chancellor, Mr. Shahid Hussain, Rector, and Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Interim Provost.
During the visit, Ambassador Blome was given a tour of the Electric Vehicles Lab at the LUMS Energy Institute and the National Incubation Centre Lahore (NICL). He met business and engineering leaders in the electric vehicle industry and discussed opportunities for collaboration in the sector.
Ambassador Blome spoke about the significant contribution made by the US toward Pakistan’s future and its youth. He stressed the need to solidify ties between both countries based on the rich history of partnership. “We are looking at a future where we can have a broader relationship with Pakistan, one that stands on its own.”
USAID has been actively involved with LUMS since its inception and has helped fund infrastructure and educate several students. USAID aims to provide equal learning opportunities and access to education for talented students. So far 50 LUMS students have been funded under the Higher Education Commission (HEC)-USAID Merit and Need-Based Scholarships.
Ambassador Blome also spoke about developing scientific partnerships. “There is a need to come together and respond to the challenges of climate adaptation and resilience,” he added.
He reiterated that there is much potential for collaboration between the two countries in trade and investment. He added that the US would continue to support Pakistan and make more efforts to combat the devastation caused by the recent floodings.
