Jilani Group Partners with LUMS to Empower Future Leaders Through the National Outreach Programme
The Jilani Group visited LUMS on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, to sign an MoU to support the University's National Outreach Programme (NOP). The delegation, led by their Chairman, Sheikh Muhammad Jilani, included Sheikh Ahsan Ashraf, Director of Administration and Finance; Sheikh Shahzeb Jilani, Director of Production; Sheikh Jehanzeb Jilani, Director of Sales and Marketing; and Usama Ahsan, Director. They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor, and Nuzhat Kamran, Director of the Office of Advancement.
Founded in 1970, Jilani Plastic, a subsidiary of the Jilani Group, is a leading plastic packaging manufacturer specialising in polyethene and polypropylene products, such as shrink films, carry bags, and agricultural films. With a fully integrated manufacturing facility, the company has grown continuously over five decades, delivering packaging solutions across various industries.
This partnership with LUMS highlights Jilani Group’s commitment to advancing education in Pakistan, as the group has agreed to sponsor 20 NOP scholars at LUMS.
During their visit, the group engaged in a meaningful discussion on the landscape of higher education in Pakistan, addressing challenges such as financial pressures on institutions, the essential role of scholarships in supporting emerging talent, and the growing need for partnerships to sustain quality education. The discussion highlighted the financial strain on middle-class families, emphasising the critical importance of scholarships to bridge this gap.
Dr. Cheema highlighted the global reach of LUMS alumni, many of whom have pursued studies in the UK and US. The conversation also addressed challenges in delivering quality education in a virtual world, as well as student aspirations and the impact of globalisation.
The discussion also highlighted the need for structural changes to ensure consistent standards, especially in specialised fields like biology, computer engineering, and chemical engineering. Dr. Cheema stressed on the potential for growth within the education market, urging for effective regulation and adaptability to maintain high standards amid expanding demand.
