Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Rizq’s Brand Ambassador Presents Token of Appreciation to LUMS
The LUMS COVID-19 Campaign has extended financial support to relief efforts undertaken by Rizq, and a ceremony marking this contribution was held on May 21, 2020 where LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Co-founders of Rizq, Huzaifa Ahmad, Musa Aamir and Qasim Javaid, and Rizq’s Brand Ambassador and Tennis player, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi were present.
Rizq is a social organisation established by three friends who came together during their time at LUMS to set up Pakistan’s first food recovery and distribution service. LUMS has joined hands with Rizq during the COVID-19 crisis and generously donated to eradicating hunger in the country.
Held at the LUMS Tennis Court, the ceremony was also attended by Director Administration and Services, Amer Khan; Manager Campus Climate Unit, Hiba Zakai and other members of the Rizq team.
Mr. Qureshi shared details about how his foundation, ‘Stop War, Start Tennis’ has recently launched the ‘Stars Against Hunger Campaign’ along with Rizq. This campaign will auction off signed memorabilia of global sports personalities such as shirts, shoes, rackets, bats and other sports equipment, and use the money raised to feed underprivileged families in Pakistan. International and national sports stars who have donated to his campaign include Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Jehangir Khan, Wasim Akram, Sania Mirza and Shoaib Akhtar.
Dr. Arshad Ahmad discussed the pandemic and its impact on the world and said, “Being a University, the first thought we had was how we can contribute to improving this terrible situation people have found themselves in. This is why we started the COVID-19 Campaign to reach out to those who are less fortunate.”
He also acknowledged Rizq for always doing something extraordinary and coming up with innovative ideas to reach out to people in need, especially those impacted by the pandemic. “We are not only proud of them but would want to support them in any way we can,” he said.
Mr. Qureshi presented Dr. Ahmad with a copy of his book along with a shirt worn during his matches as a token of appreciation. Mr. Huzaifa also handed a beautiful piece of calligraphy to Dr. Ahmad, who in turn presented him with the LUMS History Book.
The ceremony ended with Mr. Qureshi and the Vice Chancellor playing a few shots on the tennis court.
